It was a very pleasant evening and we decided to visit the famous Shree Jagannath Temple. I was Exhilarated as the majestic Jagannath Temple is the major pilgrimage destination and is also the part of " Char Dham" pilgrimages, the real part of "Char Dham". I said "real" because there is a another famous "Char Dham" in Namchi Sikkim which includes all the temples of Char Dham. It comprises Shree Badrinath, Shree Dwarka,Shree Jagannath and Shree Rameshvaram. I always dreamt of visiting char Dham but I did visit the Second char dham.
Here are some pictures of Chardham, Namchi,Sikkim
Okay now you know how someone can be so excited to visit a temple.
So it was around 6:30 pm, we went to the temple in a auto and the auto driver was very friendly. We reached Shree Jagannath temple and when I saw the queue, I was just aghast.
On four sides there are 4 gates, The Lions gate (Simhadwar),the elephants gate (hastidwar), the horse gate ( Aswadwar) and khanjadwar.
I was so over the moon when I went inside the temple, the bhajans were being played and people were praying. There was so much crowd and I could hardly stand at one place, people were pushing from each and every side but the best thing was there was a gate like thing and in the inner side you could see the face of Shree Jagannath's idol.
I was so overwhelmed by this but the only stupid thing I did was I prayed for my phone rather than praying for my family's health, actually my phone got damaged and I was feeling really anxious because of the loss.
After praying,we visited the whole temple and it was just magnificent. While wandering around the temple, I came to know that it took three generations worth a time and effort to brick up the incredible walls of the famous Shree Jagannath's temple. You can even see a model temple made up of a stone or marble and you'll get to see a footprint which is said to be done by a ancestor a long, long time ago,who did it is still a mystery.
Want to hear some shocking facts?!
SOME SHOCKING FACTS ABOUT SHREE JAGANNATH TEMPLE?!
1. THE FLAG ATOP THE TEMPLE DEFY THE NATURE'S LAW
Usually any piece of cloth is dominated by the wind to fly but this particularly flag flows in the opposite direction of wind.
2. THE CLIMB
Every day a priest scrambles the walls of the temple with a height of 66 m (214ft) and this practice is done with bare hands, you can see this practice around 5:00 pm. The most interesting thing is it is believed that if the ritual is skipped one day,the temple will be shut down for a long 18 years.
3. NO SHADOW
Sounds strange right?! But yes it is a fact, The temple have no shadow, yes you read it right! NO SHADOW AT ALL.
4. THE SUDARSHAN CHAKRA
From every direction you look, the Sudarshan Chakra is always facing you.
5. THE SKY IS NOT DOMINANTED BY BIRDS
You can see no birds flying above the temple dome. Isn't it suprising?
Maybe the god doesn't want any birds or aeroplanes to disturb his holy kingdom.
6. THE DELICIOUS MAHAPRASAD NEVER GET LESS OF ITS DEVOTEES AND NOT GETS WASTED AT ALL.
Yes you read it right, the total number of people visiting the temple varies between 2,00,000 to 20,00,000 people every day and supernaturally the food never, I repeat NEVER gets less or wasted.
7. MUTE WATER
The temple is just 3 km away from the PURI BEACH but as soon as you enter the magnificent temple, the sounds of the clamorous waves somehow gets muted.
According to the Locals, it was the will of Subhadra Mayi, the sister of the two lords wished for peace and serenity within the temple gates.
After visiting this beautiful temple and having a overwhelming experience I had few questions in my minds.
Why the idol of shree Jagannath has no ears, handsand legs?
This question was irritating me for so long, you know a curious mind is always impatient so I researched about it through various means and this is what I came to know.
According to stories heard from so long, The poet Tulsidas once visited Puri in search of lord ram, which he used to call Raghunath. After completing his darshan of Lord Jagannath, he was extremely disappointed. He was so sad that he walked away.
Tulsidas then reached a village called Malatipathpur. There he sat down under a tree and started to cry. A boy passing by came up to him and asked him the reason for his agony. The poet explained to the boy that his Raghunath, whom he loved so dearly, had actually eluded him at Puri and that he was non-existent in what he saw at the temple.
The boy then explained Tulsidas that Raghunath as an offshoot of Param Bramha, who can move without feet, see without eyes and listen without ears,“Bina pada chance”, “Bina aankh dekhe”, “Bina Kaan suney”. It was then that Tulsidas realised his folly and rushed back to Puri to find his Raghunath.
This explains why Jagannath has no ears, no hands and no feet and this is what I believe
